    This is not to the same extent but I quit my 45k salary job because I had the same dread/anxiety every week and felt like I would never be able to dedicate myself to art if I didn’t quit now. I’ve lost so much money in my savings and keep losing every month, but I know it’ll be worth it in the end. This video helped me to feel braver in my decision ❤

    Thank you so much for sharing this, it felt so comforting to see someone in a position that I am heading towards who is happy. I am making the choice to leave my full time job to pursue a dream that I have kept quiet since I was a child and I am terrified. So many questions and worries running through my mind, but I know I cannot keep living how I am. I cry every day before or after work, I dread the work week, and I'm realizing this job never made me happy....nothing ever made me happy except singing and creating. Thank you for inspiring me and reminding me that it is okay to take this leap of faith. I wish you the best of luck in your journey! :)

    Totally understand where you’re coming from. A big part of the issue with corporate is the problem you diagnosed. You keep comparing yourself to others working ridiculous hours and eventually working those ridiculous hours yourself. What I’ve been learning is you really have to just turn off work, and not give a crap how long and late others are working. It’s easier said than done obviously. But being able to work from home really put it into perspective. I just stop at 5. I don’t care if Bob is sending me emails at 2am. I’m not reading them. I work my 8 hours. And I take my vacations. I don’t stay for any work-place culture things. I just go home. My co-workers think I’m unfriendly. Some think I’m lazy. Well I still get my work done, often more effectively than people working 12 hours a day because I’m not killing myself for my job. I own enough collateral that if they tried to get rid of me they’d have to fully train someone else to understand all the work that I’ve done. And if they did get rid of me, I’d probably just get a job with higher pay elsewhere anyway. Your path is totally valid btw. This is just my experience as someone who wants to stay in engineering but also wants that work life balance. I’ve fully embraced the “anti-work” mindset. Not that I won’t do my job, but I have zero company loyalty, and am only working to make my paycheck the hours that I agreed to work when I got hired. The world is not going to end if my manager has to push back an unrealistic deadline he never consulted us before setting anyway. I value my free time and sanity over my companies profits.

      I love love your mindset on how to treat working life! I hope that more and more people can normalize this lifestyle and if I ever go back to the corporate life or even a part time job, I will definitely follow this mindset. ☺

    I felt this in my soul! Not earning 6 figures yet, but also from humble beginnings and an island, and an artist at heart, so I can relate. Growing up I loved biology and art. I became a registered nurse and said ‘I’ll have 4 days off per week for art’. Now all I do when not working is sleeping, cleaning and laundry, rarely art. Your video reminded me of my passion and to trust myself. Thank you ❤

    I related so much with your story 🫂I am also an engineer (civil) with an artistic soul, who went to corporate and did not like at all. Everyday I'd wake up and tell myself "I am going but I don't like this". Oh, and the salary? A misery! Couldn't even afford my expenses even though I live with my parents. I got to a point where I had to talk with my parents and just follow my heart and art. Today 3 months later I am happier, still not making money (3rd world country is so not easy with arts) but I am very hopeful for the future. Seeing this video really made me feel seen. So, thanks!

    Thank you for this video :) I got laid off from corporate life last year and am exploring craft and even took on a jagua tattoo apprenticeship. I let my love for art dwindled into nothing for so long that picking it up this year was... exciting, intimidating, unfamiliar, yet so reviving.. The fear for money constantly returns though, and I'm always tempted to choose again.. Trusting that the choice exists helps.. Your transparency validates my experience. Thank you, i feel less alone ❤

    • @daisydanyart
      @daisydanyart День тому

      I understand how the fear of money will somehow always loom over us creatives but I believe in you! I told myself even if I need to get back to work, I can always take part time job or a job that gives me a better work-life balance as to me this would be still better than my previous life. Don't worry about making a choice if time comes, as I think life is also a compilation of choices and it's ok to make choices that can keep us happy but also secure. We are in this together and I wish you all the best in your creative journey!🥰

    I did not go to college but through a LOT of work and stress, I ended up in Corporate Healthcare, as a Director for a multi-hospital company. The money was nice but the 24/7 was not. I figured out one week I worked over 80 hours, which came out to less than $19 an hour when I broke it down. I did not fit in with the corporate gutting that so many of the people I worked with seemed to enjoy engaging in. My heart has always been in the art/creative world. I love museums, books, being outdoors, rescue animals, creating, tea and coffee, cute clothes. I ended up leaving healthcare, getting a divorce and at 50, I am working in a museum and I do not make much money. I also picked up 10 hours at a used book store and I love it. I live VERY simple now. I sold almost everything I owned, the old me, the old beliefs, the old expectations. This economy stinks but my health is way more important than a paycheck. I beach camped for 3 months last summer and it was awesome. I have travelled to some local places and it's nice to SEE the world and not just be in it. I also started working on two research projects and have travelled to gather information. Since I left healthcare and the stress, I have lost over 70lbs, I can now keep up with the pace I set and I am much happier.

    I'm 26 and I'm an accountant. As well as an artist (just by hobby now) I was in your situation too. Full time jobs never been my jam, but also I wanted a pay that makes me be economical free. So I was stressing the hell out for years. Until I realized! Working for the state, 2 days full time the rest of the 3 remaining days only until 2 pm. Weekends at home. You can't sell stuff though for the Italian law when you work in the public administration UNLESS, after a few years of service, you can ask to work part time, and after that, you can. That's my main goal, I don't want art to be a full time stuff, I just wanna sell here and there,once in a while, while having a safe income from the state. So I know the "engineering mind" as I've got the "account mind". And I just LOVE that are two part of me,art,imagination and accountability, that now,after an awful lot, learned (or better I started to listen) to work together just fine. Man if I'm pround! The biggest struggle for me is to study because yes, there's rankings to enter and so... after passing 2 to 3 selections, there you go. Job ^.^ the studying is hard as I'm not a studying person but hey! That's what I wanna, desire so a little sacrifices need to be made but overall I'm chill. I felt too, before discovering what's written above, bad, my heart was beating so fast that ugh. Rough times. Thank God are over. Greetings.

    1. It’s crazy how many creative UA-camrs had full time jobs working as engineers for Amazon. Making good money that allowed them to live comfortably and still choose to quit because working a 9-5 at Amazon felt “soul sucking”. Like what the hell is going on with that company for you all to be saying the same exact thing? The UA-camr Lynette quit a couple years ago. And gabby just recently quit to also focus on art full time. 2. When you said it was hard to enjoy your vacation because you were dreading having to go right back to work - wow. Yes. I feel seen. It’s difficult to be in the moment when misery and dread seem to always be waiting for your return. Anyway. Thank you for sharing. Good luck to you ❤

    In my humble opinion you were able to do all this because you had the aid you needed when you decided to study and then you landed a good job and made you save money enough to take the first step into what you really want, its not for everyone as most of the people have no help at all from relatives, friends, goverment or colleagues. Its reasonable to expect to someone will have sucess if the elements of the equation are there for it, otherwise its gonna be a "no bueno"

      yeah it likely would not be the same story if she hadn't been saving for years with a 6fig job. She didn't start over. She got a new job. Not to dimmish her hard work, but what she went through is alot different than someone with $20 in their account living in a 600 ft apartment

    To be entirely honest, you put a lot of pressure on your partner now that you significantly decreased your income. I got the impression you did a hard transition rather than a soft one, and that isn't a secure choice. I am an artist and am pursuing a career in animation, so I understand wanting to choose a path that makes you happy, especially with art. I also know that the art industry is not a reliable income for many, and artists work even harder to have "side hustles" and having so much burn out for so little income. Many artists I follow quit their art career because they can't afford anything. Respectfully, I think you making a risky move and putting more pressure on your partner to foot the bills. I think soon you may have to shift your life again, whether that means picking engineering back up, or downgrading your lifestyle to fit what you can afford.

    • @daisydanyart
      @daisydanyart 6 днів тому

      I actually agree with what you said but maybe I didn't explain properly in the video that I saved up to try to pursue art full time for a couple months and I already had decided that if it doesn't work out, I plan to go back to corporate/another day job. I can completely understand how much pressure I do put on my partner and I think about it everyday to be honest. In some way it will also a good thing for me to see if I even want to pursue art full time in this time period (as there is always part of me that wonders if full time art might make me resent even painting in the future). As a plan of action, I gave myself a deadline to achieve a specific goal and income and if I don't, I'm definitely going back to the job market. I'll keep sharing my journey and be honest with what happens in the future!

    • @amber_b1723
      @amber_b1723 6 днів тому

      @@daisydanyartI appreciate you responding. I hope you find what you need with this transition, and if it’s not suitable in the long term, I suggest finding ways to marry the two sides of your skills; like a graphic artist or a game designer, though idk if you have an interest in those. I’ve seen some people make video games based on their paintings, or they find ways to incorporate traditional art with code. Idk if any of these interest you, but you don’t have to go back into the career that made you miserable if you can find ways to incorporate your passions into more stable income sources if being a freelance artist doesn’t bring the income you need. Again I do hope you find the enjoyment with this change!

    Late to the party, but this is such an inspiring video! As someone who just quit their job to pursue a creative career, I can completely relate to having high expectation and wanting things to work out quickly, forgetting the fact that it was never going to be easy, but that's why I love it! I'm so glad you're fulfilled and doing so much better!

    This has helped me set such realistic expectations for working as a full time artist. I have watched thousands of artist vlogs and kind of tired of the romanticized view of this lifestyle. I love how you’re so down to earth while being so encouraging at the same time. Your video really calms my anxiety and helps me believe that it’s really not too late for me to start over!

    As someone living in 3rd world country, it is hard to leave these science-jobs since my passion cant buy me bread. It's a battle between survival vs my ultimate dream. I will save up for now. Hoping that one day, me and my bank account have a courage to leap and go with the dream.

    I've been stuck with student debt and have been working in marketing and admin for almost 10 years. I have never made more than $20 an hour and it's insanely unfulfilling....I'm about to blow up my life to move in w my partner (bless him) and with his help, I'll be able to go to beauty school and work nights somewhere. Change and choice are crazy! I'm so glad you shifted your life to what makes you happy! Grow grow grow, girl!!! 🖤🖤🖤

    I'm in somewhat similar situation as you. I'm graduating with com sci degree at the end of this year, and now that the finishing line is right ahead of me, I'm starting to doubt whether this was the right path for me. I've also been dreaming about making a living with art and been doubting myself.. It's great seeing someone else who took that leap of faith being so happy. I'm happy for you!

    I'm an educ student, incoming third year, and although I don't have any regrets with my chosen program, I still want to pursue my dream of becoming a full-time artist in the future. It has always been my dream to study fine arts, but I want to save money first to support myself. It feels nice to see people who achieves things I want to achieve for myself.

      @daisydanyart But people usually start with basic cube and practice in 1-3 mon before goin up to complex blocks and still life (use only pencil). My teacher will complain if I use a ruler to draw 😭 but this is the best way to improve your drawing
